Te Ara o Whakatu – The Pathway of Nelson is the Nelson City Centre Spatial Plan to reimagine Nelson’s city centre over the next 30 years. The aim is to transform the city centre through 8 key actions. The addition of catenary lighting on the pedestrianised Upper Trafalgar Street can be attributed to contributing to at least four of these, notably ‘Streets for People’ and ‘Great Places’. More information can be found on https://our.nelson.govt.nz/stories/shine-nelson-shine/
SRS was contracted by Walkspace Ltd to install catenary stainless steel 316 cables for the lights to hang from on the iconic Trafalgar Street in the heart of Nelson. They were installed in perfect timing for the Mayor of Nelson Judene Edgar to switch on the lights for Te Ramaroa – Light Nelson in 2021.
